Descrição: Os Simpsons, de Matt Groening, é o desenho animado de maior longevidade na história da TV nos Estados Unidos. Tem, ao todo, dezoito temporadas e mais de 385 episódios desde sua estréia em 17 de Dezembro de 1989.Surgiu inicialmente em 1987 como uma série de curtas de trinta segundos produzidos por Groening para a série de televisão “The Tracey Ullman Show.” A reação dos telespectadores foi tão positiva que “Os Simpsons” evoluiu para um programa, estreando como um especial de Natal de meia hora em 17 de dezembro de 1989, e depois como série regular em 14 de Janeiro de 1990. A série foi elogiada pela crítica e ganhou inúmeros prêmios, inclusive um prêmio Peabody, dezessete prêmios Emmy, doze prêmios Annie, três prêmios Genesis, sete prêmios International Monitor e quatro prêmios Environmental Media. Em 14 de janeiro de 2000, a série ganhou uma Estrela na Calçada da Fama, em Hollywood. É visto em mais de cem países.
Altamente satírico, o seriado critica a sociedade estadunidense como um todo. Tem como alvos principais a classe média e a mediocridade americana. O canal aberto americano FOX, principal veiculador do desenho, também é motivo das piadas da série.
